As I have noted before, I try to take the first weekend of each month and use that do to shop improvements and shop maintenance. I do maintenance on the machines, build storage and jigs for the shop, and generally try to make ways to have the shop work more efficiently. It gives me a chance to also relook at the shop functions and ponder how things might be.
So for this weekend, I added a shelf to the bottom of my drum sander, to store sanding supplies (pretty simple). Just cut ½” thick plywood to fit.

I also sharpened some of my hand tools, including a 3/8” chisel I just purchased. Sharp tools are safer, cut cleaner, and cut down on the time it takes to do the work.

I put away some jigs into higher storage, in order to make room on the floor. Floor space is always at a premium in shops, and too often you don’t use the vertical space you have available.

Finally, I had an upcoming project that was going to be “bandsaw intensive” so I took the opportunity to pull some maintenance on my bandsaw, and to install a new blade on it. This included cleaning it up, installing the blade, and adjusting the supports to match that new blade and to ensure the blade doesn’t “drift” and effect cut. I put a good polish on the top to keep the rust off, and now its ready.

Overall, a productive weekend, and I managed to also finish the glue up on a project I have been working on for the last weekend (more on that soon).
Hope you guys had a great weekend.
Kevin
