Well, I have been out backpacking with my brother and we climbed Mount Washington in New Hampshire to celebrate his 60th birthday. Its about a 4,500 ft climb, but we took the opportunity to stay at a couple of AMC huts along the way. They have bunks and feed you dinner and breakfast. A very civilized way to hike up mountains.
Now that I’m back, I am swamped with a few projects, each of which has some “priority” to them.
- A chair repair request. Not too bad, but the dowels broke off and some of the screws became bent. This is going to call for me to drill out/clean out the dowel holes, reset everything, and then glue and clamp everything up – before adding the required hardware. Luckily, it doesn’t look like I will have to do any refinishing on it.

- Dovetailed keepsake box. Currently the wood is all milled out and I’ve cut the dovetails and grooves for the bottom and lid. Still need to clean it up and add a removal divider inside before final sanding, glue up and finishing

- Tea Box. I have a commission for a nice tea box, made out of walnut and maple. I wanted to create a “concept box” to test out the joinery and dimensions on it. This has pine in place of the walnut, and walnut in place of the maple (i.e. the finished box will be dark walnut with a few maple stripes). Have the test joinery all cut, and getting ready to glue it up. Still need to work up the drawer and cut off the top for the lid.

So I’m going to be busy in the second half of August and in September.
See you guys int the shop.
Kevin
