With all the assembly done, including the lid, it was time to finish the box. I wasn’t sure whether I would keep it for use, or give it as a gift, so I wanted to apply a finish that someone else could alter without too much trouble. I chose to use dewaxed shellac, as this is a good sealer coat, and you can apply just about anything else over the top of it and it will stick.

I put on four full coats so that it got sealed very well

Then I installed the cover for the lock – and its done!

It was an excellent learning experience for me, as I have never installed a lock before. This one works perfectly, so I now have a new feature I can offer. The bending of the hinge hardware was also new for me, so that was also a new skill.
