I’ve got a lot of projects going at the same time, which in a small shop can run into each other. In this case, I’ve got some phone stands that I made (I was out of inventory) and now they need to be finished. So its a coat of 50/50 Shellac to “raise the grain” and then I’ll need to sand that off before I apply the final two coats.
When finishing, you don’t want to be raising a lot of dust (it can settle on the product) so once I had the first coat on, I turned to my joinery bench to do some sawing out of dovetails.
I had a box design I was working on with a sliding top that could fit pencils, playing cards or dominoes. I was doing some sample work at the farmer’s market, and several folks liked the prototype. So I figured I would go and make four (4) of them. They will have dovetailed sides, a slightly larger bottom (for stability) and a lid that slides into grooves. I will probably make the lid out of a contrasting wood (Walnut or Mahogany)
Nice quiet day to spend the morning
