Making What Sells

Been selling a lot of the phone stands lately, to the point where I am down to only one remaining. Time to make some more.

Process, while simple, involves several steps of gluing and cutting which slows the process down somewhat

  1. Cut strips of wood to width, roughly 30” long (enough for two phone stands)
  2. Glue them together so they make a nice set of laminated wood
  3. Rip them to final width and cross cut pieces to 8 inches in length
  4. Sand while flat to 220 Grit
  5. Cut front groove to seat the phone, and hole for  charger cord
  6. Cut slot in back and bottom pieces for them to next together
  7. Resand/clean up to 220 Grit
  8. Finish – 3 coats of shellac
  9. “Rub out” finish to make smooth

Again, not too complicated a process, but the gluing, cutting, sanding and finishing each takes some time, whether I am making 2, 8 or 100. Keeps me busy in the shop, which I enjoy.
